Someone Who Calls herself Mary Ann

Oops. I didn't check back here after Ronni resumed blogging. I'm surprised and delighted at the number of people who commented.

Today, in a TGB post about blogger identity, Alice expressed skepticism about "someone who calls herself Mary Ann." I appreciate skepticism. So, let me reassure Alice and others who may be wondering. I call myself Mary Ann 'cause, well, that's what I've answered to all my life. It's just too confusing to have more than one name. Long ago I dropped my family nickname "Mimi" and my husband's surname. I've taken to using my job as a surname. I used to be Mary Ann "at the Hangar Theatre." Now I'm Mary Ann "Dryden Town Board." Make that Mary Ann "Dryden Town Supervisor." I won an election last month.

My personal blog is Five Wells. I also blog at Dryden Democrats. I've been reading Time Goes By for years and Ronni and I have corresponded briefly about a video about retirement made by a friend of mine. I really was shocked at Ronni's abrupt decision to stop blogging. It made me realize how fragile some internet connections can be and I was alarmed at the possibility of losing the TGB community.

I'm overwhelmingly relieved that Ronni's returned to Time Goes By. Still, I'm going to continue plowing through the links to people who commented on her announcement that she was leaving. The fifty I've already linked to are all outstanding blogs that I want to continue to read. It remains to be seen whether or not I can write enough to spur interest in this alternative community.

Links

I've boldly started adding links to people who commented on Ronni's post about quitting. I keep thinking, "Maybe I should ask permission..." But as I check each one out, I realize it's one I want to visit again and this will be a good place to keep track of them.

Still if you'd prefer not to be listed just let me know.

Time Stops Going By

Many people are shocked and saddened by Ronni's announcement that "Time Goes By is over."

We'll miss Ronni's strong voice. And we'll miss the community that has grown up around her over the years.

I offer this as a cheap substitute. I can't possibly advocate for elders as Ronni has, but if you wish to join me, leave a comment here with your email address and I'll extend authorship to you. Among us we may be able to stumble along for a while. Perhaps Ronni will chime in eventually.
